Why We Prefer Quick Dam Products for Hurricane Flood Protection (Not Sponsored)

When it comes to hurricane prep, one of the most important things we focus on is flood protection—especially as Florida residents. Over the years, we’ve tried a lot of methods, from sandbags to barriers, and while nothing is perfect, We’ve found myself reaching for Quick Dam flood bags again and again. And just to be clear—this is not a sponsored post. We’re just sharing what’s worked for us during real storms. Full Disclosure: We are Amazon Associates, and may earn a commission from qualifying purchases through links in this post with no extra charge to you. BUT, this is a real-world use post, sharing our genuine experience.

Note: Quick Dam has a wide range of flood protection products—barriers, mats, storm drain covers, and more—but this post is specifically about the flood bags, which we’ve used personally and can vouch for based on real-world experience.

The Problem with Traditional Sandbags

Sandbags have been a staple for storm protection forever, and we still use them when and where they make sense. But if you’ve ever gone hunting for sandbags as a hurricane approaches, you already know the struggle:

  • Long lines at public distribution centers

  • Limited quantities—you might be allowed just 10-20 bags

  • Sand shortages, especially if you live inland or far from distribution hubs

  • Heavy and messy—filling, lifting, and stacking sandbags is no small task

If you’re older, have back issues, or are prepping solo, this can be nearly impossible to manage efficiently when time is ticking.

Long Lines for Sandbags…all over!

Why Quick Dam Flood Bags Work for Us

A few years ago, we gave Quick Dam flood bags a shot—and honestly, they’ve earned a permanent spot in our prep kit.

Here’s why we prefer them:

✅ Easy to Store & Deploy

Quick Dam flood bags are compact and require no sand or special equipment. They sit flat until activated by water, then expand and create a surprisingly strong barrier. During the storms, we keep a few packs stored in a dry bin by the door—no need to haul around 50 pounds of sand. We currently have our haul stored in their pack, waterproof box, on a garage shelf…hoping we won’t need them for Hurricane Season 2025!

✅ Fast Setup When You Need It Most

During Hurricane Nicole, only a CAT 1, we had water creeping up our driveway fast. In just a few minutes, we lined up a few Quick Dam bags and they started doing their job. No shovel, no mess, no stress, no heavy lifting. When you're racing rising water, that time saved matters…and your back will approve of it too. After that, we started to stock them.

✅ Clean & Lightweight

Unlike traditional sandbags, Quick Dam flood bags don’t leave a huge mess behind. There’s no sand spill or moldy fabric, which makes cleanup easier after the storm has passed. Let them dry out, become crunchy, and toss. In our time using them, we have seen 1 rip due to a gutter that must have sliced it open. We just let the polymer used in them degrade in the yard as they’re environmentally friendly per the company.

Do We Still Use Sandbags?

Yes—when we have time to prep in advance or want to reinforce key areas, we still lay sandbags, mainly for their weight. But for fast deployment and when supplies are limited or we’re late in arriving to fill them, Quick Dam flood bags are the MVPs.

Real-World Use: They Saved Our Entryway

Nicole was one thing, but during Hurricane Milton, water started making its way all around our house. Retention ponds flooded, our storm systems were inundated and the rain kept coming. Before the storm though, we placed a row of Quick Dam flood bags across the threshold, patio sliders, garage and access doors—and watched as the water stopped in its tracks. We did activate them before the hurricane to avoid un-wet bags being picked up by the winds. (Hurricane Winds are no joke!) The damage we would’ve faced without them? Probably thousands of dollars if it entered.

Final Thoughts: Be Ready Before the Rain

Quick Dams aren't magic—but they work when used properly and give us real peace of mind. If you're serious about flood protection and want a tool that's easy to use, smart to store, and effective when it counts, we highly recommend giving them a try.

And again—this post is not sponsored. We’re just fellow storm-preppers sharing what’s worked. Check out what else they have…mind you, we haven’t used anything other than the bags, but they have a bit we’d be interested in.
